Where to apply your knowledge
Considering that popular use cases include private messaging for family as well as own use (short-term text notes to self), here are some ideas on how to put these skills to good use.
Speakeasy server for family and friends
As we mentioned earlier, each Speakeasy user can use their own Web server instance.
Among the advantages of using a home-based Speakeasy server instance is a lower risk of: DNS hijacking, client IP leaks, and Web server exploits.
If you have friends interested in using their own instance of Haven Web server, you can set one up for them either in the cloud or at their home.
One instance of Haven can be serve different groups of people using different chat channels. As noted earlier, it's generally a better idea if people in the same channel use different servers, though.
Short-term notes to self
If you administer other systems or applications, you probably need to copy secrets between systems.
On LANs people commonly use WinSCP (or scp
) and on the Internet they use TLS to transfer confidential data. But in many cases public keys are not issued by a CA, and TLS certificates are often self-signed.
Administrators can use Speakeasy to securely send messages to themselves or to each other - whether it's on LAN or VPN or the Internet.
