Use cases

Speakeasy messages are currently retained for 21 days.

That's a network-level default chosen at this time, but may be extended or shortened in the future.

Considering that, shared characteristics of popular use cases for Speakeasy are:

  • Private and secure messaging
  • Short-term text notes and small (50kB) attachments
  • Once xx Network can plugin into P2P storage networks (such as Crust Network), Speakeasy users will be able to share (links to) files stored on those networks

How do people use Haven?

Private communities

  • Discuss matters without disclosing your identity
  • Sharing of sanctioned files (see this example)

Family messaging

Not everything has to be on Facebook. Not everything should be retained forever. Examples:

  • Private and confidential chats that don't need to be retained

Business messaging

Business messaging that doesn't need long retention can make use of Speakeasy's data protection.

Businesses can use permanent or temporary channels. Example use cases:

  • Discuss business proposals
  • Paid or free consulting

Customer service

Some cryptocurrencies and Web services have nice privacy features.

But customer service and support often require some form of messaging or chat, and for that both parties need to inform each other of their identity or worse (register with, and access, a non-private messaging service).

  • When creating a transaction or inqiury, provide your Speakeasy identity to the seller (or, buyer)
  • Access seller's public Speakeasy channel and use DM to set up a private channel
  • Once issue is resolved, administrator (usually the seller) may delete the channel

Short-term notes to self

Speakeasy messages are always encrypted and currently retained for 21 days.

If you need to take short-term notes to self, simply create a channel and leave a note to self.

If you have your credentials handy, you may access Speakeasy from another location and read your notes.

Examples:

  • Passwords and private keys
  • RDP credentials for newly deployed Windows server
  • Web site credentials
